Happy 2018!

Happy New Year, friends!  All of these photos are from February 2017, but they seemed really appropriate to share today.  The snow is coming down sideways, and I haven't been brave enough to venture out into it aside from briefly taking the dogs out this morning.  What was supposed to be a busy Thursday has turned into a work-from-the-couch-with-my-feet-up day, staying cozy and warm and FINALLY adding the blog element back into my website.  I've missed you all!

January is a time for new beginnings, and it has always been a huge milestone month for me, marking two of my biggest anniversaries.  The first is that four years ago this month, Sean and I got hitched!  I'm sure so many of my clients can relate when I say that it feels like we just met and somehow also like we've been together forever?  I can't imagine a life without him in it (wouldn't want to, either!), and I'm really excited for this next year with him.  More on that later though ;)

The second anniversary is that ELEVEN years ago, I started this little photography business right here!  ELEVEN YEARS.  It's been such a wild ride, introducing me to some of my favorite people and taking me to places I otherwise never would have seen.  Since then, I've photographed hundreds of growing families, learned so much, and really grown as a photographer and entrepreneur.  And human, I guess, too, which is bound to happen when you start a business at nineteen years old!

A lot of you have followed along with my journey over the years through my typically very active blog and social media, so you may have noticed that it's been pretty quiet around here for most of 2017.  Back in February, I opted to close our physical office space and shop in Beacon after two years, and return to working from home when I wasn't on location shooting.  Curating our collections, having clients and friends stop by when they were in town, and meeting people within my own community (I still live right around the corner) brought so much joy to me, and it's something I really miss.  That being said, I think I bit off a little more than I could chew with running both businesses simultaneously; I was burnt out and overwhelmed.  I took a step back after the holidays, and realized I needed to make some changes and let some things go.  I scaled back in a big way, and spent the next several months focusing on my family, my photography, and trying to restore some balance to my life.

Of course, there were also some big challenges last year, like when my entire beautiful photography website up and disappeared one day, right smack in the middle of my busiest season (along with my long standing blog, shop storefront, and photo booth page).  Web design is usually something I save for the slower winter months, first because I prioritize getting my clients' photos to them before everything else, and second because web design can be so tedious and time consuming and I am very particular.  To say that was a busy and stressful month would be a giant understatement!

I'm so happy to have a little down time.  I'm wrapping up my final few sessions this month, and then taking February & March off from shooting before starting back up in April.  During this time, I'm looking forward to updating this space with so many more photos and blog posts, sharing new images from 2017 and reposting favorites from years past, while getting everything in order for all of my 2018 weddings and shoots, which I am SO excited for!

The biggest, and easily most exciting thing happening this year, though, is on the personal front: we're having a baby!  And soon!  I'll share a few details and some photos from a little maternity session we did over the next few days :)

Happy New Year, all!  I hope yours is off to a beautiful (albeit snowy) start!
